Home fitness gyms – is it worth buying a Bowflex?
Learn why it might be worthwhile to invest in a home gym such as Bowflex and save not only money but also time.
Training at a gym vs. training at home
Gyms nowadays are a luxury. People can barely afford to pay the relatively high gym membership fees.
While there are advantages to training at a gym, it might be worthwhile for you to consider buying a home fitness gym and train at home if you are tired of paying and/or cannot afford to pay recurring gym membership fees.
When does it make sense to buy a home fitness gym?
As with anything in life, there are advantages and disadvantages to owning a home fitness gym and training at home.
Disadvantages of owning a home fitness gym
- You have to make an investment upfront. While your investment will pay for itself after a while, you must have to have an initial sum of money to invest in a home fitness gym.
- A home gym takes up extra space in your home.
- You have to find it within yourself to stay motivated, because there is no interaction with other gym members; you’ll most likely be training alone.
- As you get stronger, you will outgrow the weights of your equipment and will have to purchase more and/or heavier weights that will give you a challenging enough workout.
Advantages of owning a home fitness gym
- You can stay right at home and do not have to travel to a gym.
- You can train whenever you like to.
- You do not have to pay periodic gym membership fees.
- You’ll have privacy if that is a concern to you.
Personal experience
I started out training at a gym – and several gyms after that – for many years. But as I moved from going to school to starting to work, my training schedule became so irregular that I was losing money by not being able to go the gym when I wanted to.
So it was a no-brainer for me to invest in a home gym – a bench, a barbell, a pair of dumbbells, and some weights – and train at home. I saved myself a lot of money in ‘wasted’ gym membership fees and had the flexibility of training whenever I wanted to right at home.
Consider your own situation by weighing the benefits of going to a gym to the benefits of owning a home fitness gym. Do the math and see whether it makes sense for you too to make the switch.
And remember that getting in shape or staying fit does not have to cost a fortune, just a few wise decisions.
